Tony Thomas, President & Chief Executive Officer
Tony Thomas is president and CEO of Windstream, a position he has held since December 2014. Thomas has more than 20 years’ experience in the communications industry. He was instrumental in the development of Windstream’s REIT spinoff and served as president of real estate investment trust operations at Windstream from October to December 2014.
Thomas previously served as Windstream’s CFO. During his five-year tenure, he played an integral role in Windstream’s expansion by completing seven acquisitions totaling more than $5.6B in transaction value. Thomas also has deep capital market expertise, having led almost $10B in debt transactions.
Thomas joined Windstream as controller following Windstream’s spinoff from Alltel Corp. He held a variety of financial and operational leadership roles at Alltel after joining the company when it merged with 360 Communications in 1998. Before entering the communications industry, he was with Ernst & Young in their telecom practice.
He holds an MBA from Wake Forest University and a bachelor’s in accountancy from the University of Illinois.
Layne Levine, President Windstream Enterprise & Wholesale
Layne Levine is president of Windstream Enterprise & Wholesale where he is responsible for sales, financial performance, marketing, field technicians, service delivery and customer care and repair for the company’s mid-market, enterprise, and wholesale segments. He also oversees the company’s channel program, including VARs, agents, MSPs and system integrators.
Levine has worked in the telecom industry for more than 25 years, most recently as chief revenue officer at GTT, which provides cloud networking services to multinational customers. In that role, Levine led revenue growth initiatives worldwide, targeting global carriers and multinational enterprises and developing their emerging channel strategy. Previously he was EVP for GTT’s Americas division, managing sales and customer operations efforts for North and South America.
Prior to GTT, Levine was SVP of sales at Alpheus Communications, and before that, led retail sales for Deltacom/EarthLink. Levine also has held leadership positions at Airband Communications, Level 3 and Broadwing Communications.
Levine has a Bachelor of Arts from Texas Tech University.
Darren Mass, President Resale
Darren Mass is president – Resale of Windstream Enterprise. He joined the company in March 2018 after their acquisition of MASS Communications, a customer centric, culture-based resale partner, where he served as CEO for over 10 years.
Darren has over 20 years of experience in telecommunications. He began in engineering, in the Network Operations Center at PAETEC, where he built a broad technical and business foundation that fueled his rise through senior leadership roles. His desire for a people-based culture and passion for the industry led him to found MASS. The company went on to receive Crain’s Best Places to Work in New York City for three consecutive years, 2015-17, and was listed on Inc. Magazine’s five-time honor role for fastest growing private companies.
Mass holds a degree in Telecommunications Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology and a CPD in leadership from The Wharton School.
Curt Allen, Senior Vice President Channel
Curt Allen is SVP Channel, and joined the company in November 2017. Just prior to that, he was an owner and president of X4 Solutions for more than 12 years, staying on as president of channel when the firm was acquired by Sandler Partners, a master agent.
With more than 20 years of sales and leadership experience exclusively in the telecommunications industry, Allen is widely-respected in the channel community, both for his industry knowledge, and strength in building partner and customer relationships. He has earned a reputation as a leader with deep understanding of the agent and master agent marketplace, and a passion for helping channel partners and resellers thrive. He believes the key to that vitality and partnership is a strong, competitive program that drives value for partners and their customers through industry leading solutions, a robust underlying network, and most importantly, tremendous support.
Allen holds a bachelor’s in political science and government from the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
Michael Flannery, Senior Vice President Customer Advocacy
Michael Flannery is SVP Customer Advocacy and is responsible for overseeing customer advocacy, inside sales, and the overall customer experience for mid-market and enterprise segments. Flannery previously served as SVP Sales, Marketing & Operations for the Mid-Market & Small and Medium Business unit.
Flannery joined Windstream in February 2017 from EarthLink, where he was SVP and managing director of their SMB unit, and previously SVP of Sales and Revenue Operations. Prior to EarthLink, Flannery held positions of VP of Large Enterprise & Wholesale Business Operations for Level 3, as well key roles at Global Crossing, including VP Commercial Finance & Strategic Planning, and chief of staff for the Enterprise BU. Earlier, Flannery served in a variety of finance, sales, and consulting roles at Xerox.
He holds an MBA with an emphasis in finance and information systems from the University of Rochester’s Simon Business School and a bachelor’s in accounting from Binghamton University.
Joseph Harding, EVP & Chief Marketing Officer
Joseph Harding is Executive Vice President and CMO of Windstream Enterprise & Wholesale. He joined the company in 2015 and is responsible for all aspects of marketing for Mid-Market, Enterprise and Wholesale business units, including go-to-market strategy, product management and development, channel marketing, field marketing, and brand management.
Harding has more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications industry. He was previously CMO for Integra Telecom, a facilities-based telecom provider, from 2011 until joining Windstream. Prior to that, Harding was VP of Product Development at Level 3, responsible for global Transport, IP, Data and Voice product development. Joe began his career at MCI Communications in 1993 in the business markets division where he held various marketing leadership positions.
He holds a bachelor’s in business administration and finance from the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Rick Hausman, Executive Vice President Customer Operations
Rick Hausman is EVP Customer Operations of Windstream Enterprise & Wholesale and is responsible for service delivery and assurance, customer care, field operations, network deployment and operations support. He joined Windstream in 2014 and was previously SVP of enterprise operations.
Hausman has 18 years’ experience in the industry, including four with Clearwire as VP of operations and account management for the wholesale division. Rick also held leadership positions at Sprint and Nextel in customer, sales and marketing operations.
Prior to beginning his telecom career, Hausman served as a captain in the U.S. Army and holds a bachelor’s in engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point.
Rich Martin, Chief Financial Officer
Rich Martin is CFO for Windstream Enterprise & Wholesale. He joined the company in October 2017 and is responsible for financial planning and analysis, business intelligence, sales operations support, pricing and margin assurance.
Martin was previously CFO at Alpheus Communications, a provider of data transport and communications solutions in Texas, where he was responsible for all financial, human resources, legal and regulatory functions. He also served as CFO of Biophysical Corporation and controller and chief accounting officer at Broadwing Communications.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from The George Washington University.
Shawn Murray, Executive Vice President Enterprise Sales
Shawn Murray is EVP of Enterprise Sales. He joined the company in August 2017 and has more than 23 years in the telecom industry. Shawn is a dynamic leader with a proven record of steering teams to increase revenue on existing accounts and aggressively penetrate new prospects. In addition, he has an unrelenting attention to detail around effective funnel and activity management, which is key to delivering success.
Murray came to Windstream from Birch Telecom, where he was Chief Sales Officer. In that position, he reduced the gap between churn and installed revenue through increased new billed revenue and customer retention efforts. Prior to joining Birch, Shawn was VP of Enterprise Sales at GTT. He also held leadership roles at EarthLink, Sprint and MCI.
He holds a bachelor’s in business administration with an emphasis in finance from West Virginia University.
